A Dairy Farm Reality

Over Thanksgiving week, my well-meaning brother-in-law, Cody, expressed some confusion over my refusal of dairy products.  He simply couldn’t understand how I could think that the dairy industry was cruel in any way.  In fact, his experiences had shown him just the opposite:

A vetrainarian-in-training, Cody has spent several months working on an established vet’s country farm.  He says that the milking cows there were treated the best of all of the animals.  After all, healthy, happy cows produce better milk so why would anyone trying to sell that milk want to treat the cows poorly? Unfortunately, the conditions on Cody’s farm are the exception to the rule.

In reality, when you purchase most store-sold dairy products, this is the kind of farming behavior that you are supporting:
