Testimonial Tuesday: Bethanie’s Newfound Confidence

Today’s Testimonial Tuesday comes from actress/singer/burlesque dancer Bethanie Louise, a recent graduate of the 6 month program who loved her results so much that she signed up for another round!

Here’s what Bethanie had to say about our first experience working together on her wellness goals:

bethanie as the black canary testimonial

Working with Michelle has been one of the best decisions I’ve made with my life! I’ve always had pretty low self-esteem and would handle my personal struggles in unhealthy ways, but being a performer, you need to show confidence and be able to put yourself out in the open. I was afraid to go on auditions because I never felt like I was talented or thin enough to belong there. I’d tried everything from fad dieting to therapy to lose weight and feel happier, but nothing seemed to work.

I went to Michelle at the heaviest I’d ever been. I felt miserable with myself and for once I wanted to try something I knew would be healthy for me. She taught me so much about what to look for in my eating habits. I never realized how much food could affect my mood, but with her help I incorporated healthier alternatives to help me to feel better both physically & emotionally.

Besides eating healthy, Michelle has taught me how to cope with my emotional issues in healthy ways instead of reverting back to old habits. She never judged me or made my problems seem insignificant. Not only did she listen, she also helped me set goals to work on between sessions and adapted her program to benefit my needs. Even in between our meetings, she would send me a friendly e-mail making sure I was ok and giving me useful tips to help me achieve my goals.

Michelle is someone who values her clients and wants everyone to succeed in their lives. I have never felt as happy as I have working with Michelle. With her help, I finally have the confidence I’ve been searching for and I no longer feel the need to hide myself or cope with food. I recommend her to everyone and I cannot wait to start my second program with her!

How to Make $50 [and Be a Great Friend] Without Even Trying

I’m so excited to announce my newest Health Happiness & Hula Hoops project:

The Friendly Favor Referral Program
[or How to Make $50 Without Even Trying]Recruit Your Friends to Join My Healthy Army!

Recruit Your Friends to Join My Healthy Army!

Here’s how it works:

First, think of all the lovely ladies in your life that could use a healthy boost. Maybe your sister needs help losing that baby weight or your best friend needs more energy for her new job, whatever the situation, you can help!
Next, tell those friends about my health coaching services. You could say something like:

Hey, I know you’ve been having some issues with [insert health problem here] and I follow this health coach/blogger on [insert social media platform here] that seems like she could help. She even has some awesome testimonials from sexy ladies like you who loved her six-month program. Check out her website at www.healthhappinessandhulahoops.com or visit her blog at www.michellesheawalker.com to see what you think.

Then, “like” the Health Happiness & Hula Hoops facebook page. Believe it or not, this part isn’t just about whoring myself out for likes, it’s about letting you know when and how to collect your reward. Once readers start to refer their friends through this program, I will announce the reward recipients on my business page’s wall. There will also be a photo announcement of awards in a gallery labeled “Referral Rewards,” just in case you miss it on the timeline.

So, what are the rewards?

♥ For every friend who completes a free health history consultation, you will receive a free Health is Beauty sticker.
♥ For every friend who signs up for 6 months of health coaching, you will receive $50!*

There’s no limit to how many friends you can refer. The more friends you help out, the more money you can make [or, at the very least, the more stickers you’ll have to decorate your iPad]!

*Reward payments will be made via Paypal or online transfer once the first half of your friend’s program has been purchased. Depending on the payment plan chosen, this could be immediately after they sign up or at the program’s three-month marker.

Thankful Thursday: Life Unplugged & Photo Fun

Long time, no see, right?

While I’m sorry for my absence in keeping you supplied with yummy gluten-free & vegan recipes, I’m not sorry for the time I’ve spent away from the computer. It’s been a busy few weeks with new projects and business opportunities. I’ve spent a lot of time on the health coaching side of things, but I’ve also made a conscious effort to stay away from the computer more often.

As an introvert, the internet has become my greatest playground, but every once in awhile I have to step away. It’s important for me to stil have real life interactions, real life  dates, and real life views [my eyes need a break from pixels, after all]. I truly believe that all of our modern day interaction with technology isn’t healthy. In fact, if I spend the entire day on the computer, I know go to bed feeling stressed and wired up. But at the same time, I find so much inspiration and entertainment online that I cannot stay away for long.

It’s all about the balance…which is one of the many things I’m thankful for today.
Here are some of the others:

♥ Finding Jawbreaker on HuluPlus last night [it was one of my high school favorites…though still not as good as finding Heathers on Netflix] ♥ Purchasing a gorgeous Betsey Johnson dress on Ebay for a steal [very Carrie Diaries] ♥ Admitting to my new guilty pleasure: The Carrie Diaries [it’s no Sex and the City, but it’s just stylish enough to quell my cravings] ♥ A yummy gift & cute sticker from Callie at Rawxies [seriously guys, you need to try the mint chocolate flavor, it’s so good!] ♥ New stickers for Health Happiness & Hula Hoops [given to anyone who refers a friend for a free health consultation w/ me] ♥ New health coaching website design featuring photos from the very talented Katie Graves [see below for a taste & like the Health Happiness & Hula Hoops facebook page to see the rest as they’re posted] ♥

What are you thankful for today?

Testimonial Tuesday: Stephanie’s Missing Piece

So technically it’s been Wednesday in Chicago for about half an hour, but I just had to share this Tuesday testimonial from my most recent healthy, happy client:

stephanie testimonial

Stephanie Brandenburg: “[Before the program] I neglected to take care of myself. After college, I think I had reached a point where I was just so generally unhappy with the direction my life had taken that I was getting myself through the day and thought that I should be happy with how I was doing that, but then suddenly realized that all of it was just a way to keep time moving and I didn’t enjoy any of it. And I felt sick most of the time…I just didn’t feel good.

[The program] really encouraged me to better myself…and when you start realizing that you’re feeling better and you’re in a better place, you want to keep on getting that. It’s like once you start to get that natural high you’re like, ‘See, this is what I was missing!’ It’s nice to have someone who has the knowledge to give you a good starting point.  And for me, that’s really what it was, it ended up being a really good base and then afterwards I had the right tools to continue it. Even now, months after doing it, I’ve been improving. So it’s something that continues even after you’re done. Now, I know what I want from life and for myself. I feel more motivated and more capable than I’ve felt in a very, very long time.”

Happy New Year, lovely readers!

I must confess that January 1st may be my favorite holiday.

I’m a sucker for a clean slate, making lists, and planning for a bright, new future…and having an excuse to spend the day in my PJ’s after a night of champagne isn’t too shabby either.

2012 was an exciting year for me, full of learning and growing, but 2013 has even bigger changes in store…more on those as they unfold.

In the meantime, here’s a look back at my favorite highlights from the past year:

What are your best memories from 2012?

It’s the End of the World as We Know It

I’ve never been much of a doomsday prep-er. It’s just not my style.

As an eternal optimist & meditation junkie, I believe that the future is what you make of it…as long as my thoughts remain positive, my future remains bright. Nick, on the other hand, is the eternal boy scout. He may not believe that the world’s really going to end, but he’s determined to be prepared in case it does [check out his tongue-in-cheek zombie survival class to see what I mean]. Over the past year, Nick & I have had a few discussions about the whole Mayan calendar/December 21st topic and have come to the agreement that it’s less about the end of the world & more about the end of an era.

That’s why I was so excited to find today’s video interview between my favorite YouTube personality, Marie Forleo, & the equally awesome Ophi Edut of AstroStyle on how the end of the Mayan calendar is really just the beginning of an exciting new age.

Don’t feel like watching the whole video? Here’s the cliff notes version [+ my own thoughts] on how to thrive in a post-2012 world:

1. Develop & deepen your spiritual tools. This has been a big theme in my life for the past year. Through yoga & meditation, I am slowly finding a spiritual practice that works for me. There’s nothing wrong with the traditional church setting, but I personally find connecting with my spiritual side easier from the quiet of my mind. Meditation has taught me that I have all of the tools that I need within me to create the life that I desire. Which leads us to point #2…
2. Move from waiting to creating. Otherwise known as manifesting your desires, my favorite resources for information on this concept are Gabby Bernstein [who they mention in the video] & The Secret. Your thoughts control your reality & you can make magic in your life once you learn how to use them.
3. Get in touch with your body. Be healthy. Eat your veggies. Move your body. These are all things I help my clients with, but they’re a big part of my own life as well. It’s amazing the clarity & peace of mind you can achieve through complete & total health.
4. Discover your ability to bend time. Yeah, this one sounds a little crazy, but it’s pretty similar to point #2: you can create your own existence by just altering the way you look at the world. If you truly believe that you have enough time to get things done, you’ll stress less, be more productive, and it will feel like the clocks are making time just for you.
5. Join forces & resources with people. In this global community that exists on the web, it’s amazing the people you can find in your corner. Connect & be respectful of everyone you interact with, you never know who can lend a helping hand down the line.
6. Spend more time being around people in-person. As an online introvert, this is the one area I struggle with, but despite my shy nature, I do make sure to schedule face time [not just FaceTime] with the people closest to me. My resolution is to take this further in 2013: unplug more often and head out into the world. Won’t you join me? ♥

Relish Tray: Delicious Granola + Yogurt

relishverb. to delight in something that satisfies one’s tastes, inclinations, or desires.

a little bowl of sunshine.

This morning, I started my day off with a bowl of granola & yogurt* from Delicious Cafe. Crunchy, hearty, and slightly sweet, it was the perfect prep for the really great health coaching client meeting that followed [it makes my ♥ happy to see my clients thrive]. If you’re in the Chicago area, go & try it…as well as my favorite coconut milk chai.

*I forgot to ask what type of vegan yogurt they used, but I’m guessing either soy or almond, whichever it was, it was […wait for it…] delicious.

Thankful Thursday 10/18 – 10/25

This week, I’m thankful for:

♥ my first free sugar blues workshop tomorrow @ 7pm CDT [RSVP on facebook to attend!]
♥ voting early for our favorite president [hint: rhymes with yo mama]
♥ our first delivery from Door to Door Organics [purchased w/ a discount from Veganmania]
♥ playing battleship to stay sane during a REALLY long wait for brunch @ Tweet

And tonight, I’m particularly thankful for my web hosting site: Green Geeks!

After hours of trying to figure out the technical details of switching domain names for this blog [soon to be michellesheawalker.com, bookmark it!], I finally gave in and messaged customer support. Not only was the solution simple, it wasn’t even my problem! Green Geeks totally took care of everything for me. And have I mentioned they’re also environmentally friendly and wind-powered? If you’re ever in need of web hosting, I highly recommend them.
